Boudoir Photography: A Guide for Your First-Time

Are you thinking about booking a boudoir photoshoot but feeling nervous about it? You're not alone! A lot of people feel a little apprehensive about baring it all in front of a camera. But don't worry, with a little preparation and the right photographer, you can have an amazing experience that will leave you feeling confident and empowered. Being boudoir photographers, we have a couple tricks up our sleeves for making your session the best it can be. Let's go over some tips for those new to boudoir photography and nervous for their first time!

Boudoir Photography: A Guide for Your First-Time

Moisturize and Stretch

Well-moisturized skin looks best in photos, so make sure to hydrate your skin the night before and the day of the shoot. Also, stretching beforehand is key! Boudoir photography requires a lot of poses that often involve arching your back, lifting your hips, and pointing your toes (sometimes all of those at once). So, take a few minutes to stretch out and warm up your muscles before the shoot.

Dress Comfortably

Wearing loose-fitting clothing to the shoot is super important to prevent any skin marks that might show up in your photos. You'll want to be as comfortable as possible, so choose an outfit that you feel good in. If you're super nervous to begin, wear something more simple to get yourself warmed up. This could be jeans and a bra, or booty underwear and your boyfriend's white tee. We've even had someone start off in full footie pajamas with the zipper down low! We love when clients showcase their personality through their outfit choices in their boudoir photography. So get creative, but wear something you feel you're best in and it will show in the photos!

Pamper Yourself

Boudoir photography is all about self-care, so treat yourself to a professional hair and makeup session. Why not go all out and get your nails done, too! After the shoot, treat yourself to a delicious meal or something that makes you happy. This is your day to celebrate you! Pamper yourself, and make a day out of it.

Bring a Hype Person

If you're feeling nervous, bring along someone who can support you and boost your confidence! Doing a shoot with a friend or your significant other can also be such a fun experience. Whether they join in on the photos or not, it can be so nice to have someone you trust there to hype you up. Don't forget to bring a bottle of champagne to celebrate with them after your boudoir photography session! Kaytie and Sarah (pictured above) did their boudoir photography sessions together. It was such a fun and energetic atmosphere, and they even got these fun photos together! How frickin' special to have these empowering photos with your best friend!

Trust Your Photographer

A good boudoir photographer knows that most people don't have much experience posing in front of a camera with little to no clothing. Choosing the right photographer that you trust on every level is key! They're there to direct and guide you through every single movement. You get to just sit back and trust them to help you look your best. It's totally valid to still feel nervous though! Take a deep breath, trust your photographer, think about how stunning you look and let the photographer guide you.

Turn It Into a Couples Session

If you're looking for a fun and intimate experience with your significant other, why not turn your boudoir photoshoot into a steamy couples session? This is such a great way to bring you two closer and make it a full-on date day (or night). Kayla (pictured above) turned her session into a couples session, and we got some of the most steamy, romantic photos of her and her husband! Having these kind of photos to reminisce with your lover for years to come is such a special thing.
